What's happening hot stuff?
Every time we get a new shipment of clothing and goods, I fall in love. It can be heartbreaking at times when I see a piece of clothing in my size go out the door, but it makes me happy to see it go to a great new home. Dramatic much? Eh, if you owned your hobby, you would say the same thing :) I love when people ask me about the fit of a dress, shirt or bottom because when something new arrives, I make sure to try it on so I can give my honest opinion to people who ask - it's a hard job, but somebodies gotta do it! So here are pictures of some goodies that arrived this week - I'll be here to tell you the truth, or talk you out of it so I can take it :)
Also, for those brave women who do most of the shopping for their guys, we are now featuring Men's clothing! We have a small selection of dress shirts and polo shirts from the brand Alternative Apparel (very comfy, stylish and versatile) at great price points ($32-$48) and range in sizes Small - 2X Large. More Men's shorts and tops will be arriving in late May.
More items arriving next week! Woohoo!

It's not really work if you love it....
Last week I was fortunate enough to get some much needed R&R with vacation time - and what did I stagger upon while recharging my batteries? A whole assortment of new vendors and brand lines that are a perfect fit for our little store! One of my favorite jobs here at Humanité is to research and gather new, potential vendors for the store - so when I stumble upon an entire space that has everything directly in front of me, it's like Christmas morning all over again. The store owner was so kind in helping me, even lending me a piece of paper and pen to write everything down - I was so excited! I reassured her many times that I wasn't her competitor (the store's in the USVI - quite far away) and she offered me a few tips that are invaluable. Can't wait to see the new vendors at the apparel show next week - you guys are going to love it!

You've got questions, We've got answers...
We've received a number of inquiries regarding the type of clothing, accessories and home decor we carry here at Humanité. So to make sure our fans know what to expect when walking through our doors, here's a rundown of what you can find inside:
Who shops at Humanité?
The demographic Humanité concentrates on are between the ages of 25-50. However, we've had a number of high school students and sassy ladies over 50 come in and rave about how much they love our clothing and the fit. A number of our items will fit any age depending on the body type. You just have to try it on!
What sizes do you carry?
We run a broad spectrum for sizing as well - anything from a 2-16. In some items, we have smalls that fit a size 2-4. When available, we always order the largest sizes possible, which is usually a size 14. Our designer jeans go up to size 16. We're always on the lookout for sizes that will accommodate our customers when at all possible.
What type of inventory do you carry?
Anything and everything that a woman needs to complete an outfit! Shoes, Jewelry, Dresses (we have a TON of dresses!), Tank tops, Scarves, Bras, T-shirts, Sweaters, Cardigans, Jackets, Jeans and more. We also carry a variety of home goods and decor including locally handmade pillows, Lamps, Picture Frames, Mirrors, Wall Decor, Gifts and lifestyle products such as BPA-free water bottles and Organic Beauty Products.
Why is your email address litsemba, and what does it mean?
The entire reason the store Humanité exists stems from the August '09 mission trip I took to Swaziland, Africa. There's no adjective to give the amazing experience justice. Because of that trip, I wanted to be able to give back to the organization, Heart For Africa, on a continuous basis and from there, Humanité was born. 10% of my profits are going to one local (New Century Scholars) and one international charity (Heart for Africa) with the dream of being able to increase the giving percentage while still remaining a viable business. In Swaziland, the word "Litsemba" means HOPE. I couldn't think of a better way to be reminded of why this store is here than for the simple and powerful word of Hope.
Is there something you'd like to see Humanité carry? Any type of brand, clothing or accessories? Let us know! I'd be delighted to carry an array of your favorite or hard to find items. Email it to me at litsemba@gmail.com or come by the store and have a chat!

The two of us together, we can do anything.
Hi there! Remember me? I'm the one that's suppose to be posting updates about Humanité here :) We've had a whirlwind of the last two weeks - two weeks that's ended up encapsulating some of the biggest milestones in our lives, personally and professionally. I usually won't post things of a personal nature - but it's been too good not to share!
Last Wednesday, March 31st, my husband received the letter we've been waiting for - his results for the NC Bar - and he passed!!!! To say I am proud of him is an understatement - I've never seen anyone work so hard towards something. In addition to his 3-years of law school, he would study weekends, holidays, everyday possible for hours upon hours to prepare to take the Bar exam - the man is a machine! So now he is licensed to practice law in Georgia and North Carolina. He's amazing. and I just so happen to find amazing to be hot :)
Within that same week, I opened the doors of Humanité for good. I decided to plan a "soft opening" for Saturday, March 27th for a few hours - just family and friends - to get a better feel for the day-to-day operations and get feedback on the store. That night, I was overwhelmed with joy. I couldn't believe the positive feedback the store was receiving. What made it even better was the sense of community and excitement that seemed to be brewing. Bryson City is changing, and it's changing for the better. That night it was as if everyone, including myself, was finally seeing what this community can accomplish with each others support and a dream.
So Humanité is finally open! Our hours are M-F 10am-7pm; Sat 10am-8pm and closed Sundays. The website is in the works and will be launched in July with the ability to do online shopping from the store. Until then, I will update you on new shipments that arrive via the blog and our facebook page. If you have any questions, feel free to call us down at the store at 828.538.4180 or email at litsemba@gmail.com
